This year Bedern Hall is welcoming 3 local artists to exhibit their work in the historic hall. The series of exhibitions hopes to enhance the hall by drawing in new visitors and, with artists generously agreeing to donations from sales, bring in funds for The Bedern Hall Foundation and help towards the plans for the future.
The first exhibition welcomed the talented Granville Heptonstall on 31st March which raised over £400! Granville’s work concentrated on York Minster and The Howardian Hills. Though having little obvious connection, these iconic landmarks are in fact visible from each other and portray his passion for architecture and the English landscape. Granville uses colour in a poetic and non-descriptive way resulting in fantastic artwork that is loved by many.
The current art exhibition, the second in the series by local artists, is by Adrienne French and is ongoing until the end of September 2017. All of the artwork displayed is for sale and Adi has generously agreed to donate part of the proceeds to The Bedern Hall Foundation.
A little bit from the artist:
“My work over the last few years has been concerned primarily with interpretations of landscape, based on observation’s and memory of time spent both here in the UK and abroad, and nearer home walking t on the North York Moors, Dales and Wolds throughout the year.
Each year we choose a new county of Britain to visit and explore and this visit often results in a new body of work. Together with journeys abroad these landscapes have provided a never-ending source of inspiration. The range of mixed media and colour I use in my work reflects the textures and marks found in theses landscapes.”
The final exhibition in our series of local artists will be the talented Matthew Miller, who will be bringing along his show of “Lucky Cloud in Your Sky” from 2nd November to 15th December 2017.
The Hall will be open to the public throughout the exhibitions, currently through July we will be open from 10.30am until 4.30pm and for the full month of August we will be open every day, so why not drop by for coffee and cake as well?
