This yuletide at Bedern Hall, we’ll be opening our doors to visitors of two very different kinds. Whether you’re up for a ghost hunt or pining for a Christmas wreath, come and join in the festivities at our beautiful Medieval hall.
A Ghostly Christmas- 6th December
It was a dark, stormy night and the wind whistled through the frost-covered branches that bashed against the majestic Medieval windows of Bedern Hall… or it will be when we brace ourselves for a Ghostly Christmas.
On the 6th December, prepare to have your bones chilled and mind let wild. We’ll be on the edge of our seats as we hear the spookiest stories that local theatre group Ars Ludendi have to offer. The creepy collective will draw on their interest in the Medieval and unrivalled imagination to bring you tales to terrify and torment.
Feeling suitably spooked? Book here…
As we well know, York is one of the most haunted places in the world. It’s even known as ‘the city of 1000 ghosts’! Little surprise then that Ars Ludendi has chosen it as their base to summon the spirits.
Bedern Hall itself has a long and troubled past. It’s been home to York Minster’s Vicars Choral, residents of disease-ridden Victorian tenements and a bloody butcher. More about that here… Perhaps we’ll spot a ghoul or two gracing our 14th-century refectory on the night.
And once your spine is suitably chilled, you’ll be ready to enjoy a delicious Christmas hot buffet made fresh here at Bedern Hall and included with your ticket.
Tickets £20 per person including Christmas hot buffet.
A Crafty Christmas- 12th December
For those less partial to a spot of paranormal activity, we have an altogether more heart-warming and wholesome event for you at Bedern Hall.
Our good friend, Kathrine Armstrong Bisson of the ever-popular Fleur Adamo Florists will be leading a workshop on creating a Christmas wreath.
Whilst times have changed since every family would adorn their door with pinecones and holly sprigs, we believe there’s beauty in nostalgia. Keep the tradition going and delight your yuletide guests with a unique hand-crafted decoration.
Bedern Hall is the perfect space for a craft workshop. Our Medieval beams and beautiful stone walls are sure to provide you with creative inspiration. Plus, our large windows make the place wonderfully light to see all the details when putting together your wreath.

This is also a fabulous opportunity to make friends! Meet like-minded merry-makers from the York community and bounce your ideas off each other – will you choose berries, dried fruit, ribbons or foliage?
And if you’re not already feeling in the Christmas spirit, you won’t be able to resist Roger Lee’s wonderous winter afternoon tea. Heralded as one of the best (and most reasonable) afternoon teas in York, Roger uses local Yorkshire produce to perfect an extra special treat. This wintery edition will warm your heart with exquisite festive ingredients.
Tickets £40 per person to include:
Refreshments on arrival
All materials
Finished decorations to take home
Glass of fizz and a wonderful winter afternoon tea
