However you pronounce it, the Scone is the centre piece of any afternoon tea. We’ve teamed up with Hebden Tea to offer you a tea and scone tasting sessions with three scone flavours created by our in-house baker Bernadette.
Activities for the kids and a Tea-torial session by Hedben Tea! Plus your chance to suggest a new flavour to add to our menu.

York Guild Hall walking tours – part of Heritage Open Days
Bedern Hall would like to invite you to come and explore some of York’s best kept secrets! Originally home to the Vicars’ Choral of the minster, Bedern Hall is now home to three of York’s Guilds. Join tour guide Dave Hobman as he highlights the trades and traditions of York on a 60-minute walk around the city.
The experience includes a look around Bedern and the walking tour in association with the nationwide Heritage Open Days event.
3 walks during the day – 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm. BOOKING HERE
This is a free event (entrance into the guildhalls not included) Booking required for the tours, but the hall will be open as usual. Feel free to drop in and say hello!
Living History at Bedern Hall with Frei Compagnie
As part of Heritage Open Days, medieval re-enactors Frei Compagnie take over Bedern Hall for a Living History display. Hands on experiences of medieval food, crafts and arms.

2nd Annual Pork Pie Competition sponsored by The Company of Butchers of the City of York
Did you know that before restoration Bedern Hall was part of William Wright’s Pork Butchers, famed across the City for their pies.? In search of the perfect pie, we’ve invited local pie makers to enter their very best pies for you to judge and vote for your favourites. Local ales from Yorkshire Heart Brewery,, the perfect pie partner, available to buy.
We’ve partnered with The Company of Butchers of the City of York who sponsored the trophy and gave guidance on judging.
Last year’s winners in the Traditional Category where Mountfield of Bubwith and in the Flavoured Category, Ged Bell. We hope they’ll both be back to defend their Titles!

Celebrate the season in our candlelit hall with good old Yorkshire Bangers & Mash, washed down with a local ale, accompanied by live music from Emily Lawler! Mulled cider on arrival, sausage and mash with onion gravy, sticky toffee pudding dessert! What’s not to like?
Aesthetica Short Film Festival – Sound Installation: Flux & Possibilities
Become immersed in Martyn Riley’s durational sound piece. It is a collaboration with a multitude of female-identifying interviewees who share their personal identities and histories, highlighting their experiences and ideologies about feminism, inequality and gendered spaces. This emphasis on space, place and gender aims to air testimonies and personal opinions connected to the nature of power and control. The artist has created sounds connected directly to these stories of geographics, experience and memory, ensuring their voices are heard. Join Aesthetica for deep listening. Sit or lie on the cushions provided and dive-in to the experience.
A Crafty Christmas at Bedern Hall. Tickets £40 each including lunch
Celebrate the season and support Bedern Hall with Katherine Armstrong Bisson of Fleuradamo who will help you create some stunning Christmas wreaths for your home this Christmas. Tickets £40 per person to include refreshments, all materials and seasonal soup and sandwich lunch.
